Learning English can change many things in your life. And you don't have to do it alone.
For many Latino immigrants living in the United States, learning English is one of the most important steps toward feeling more confident and independent.
Being able to speak with your children's teachers, understand a job interview, make a doctor's appointment, or simply communicate with more confidence can make a big difference in everyday life.
However, getting started is not always easy.
Some people feel nervous about speaking. Others worry about making mistakes, not understanding the lessons, or feeling that it is too late to learn.
At NOAH (Neighborhood of Affordable Housing), we understand that learning a new language takes time, patience, and, most importantly, a place where you feel supported. That's why our affordable English classes in East Boston help community members build their skills and confidence in a welcoming learning environment.
One of the special features of NOAH's English as a Second Language (ESL) program is its bilingual teaching approach for Level 1 students.
This means instructors speak both English and Spanish, allowing them to explain lessons more clearly and support students who are just beginning their learning journey.
This approach helps students ask questions, better understand the lessons, and participate without worrying so much about making mistakes.
For adults who are learning English for the first time, having a teacher who understands their native language can make the experience less intimidating and more encouraging.
Sonia, who has been teaching English at NOAH for four years, understands how important this support can be.
From her experience, she explains that having bilingual instructors helps students feel more comfortable, overcome their fears, and make better progress in class.
Because learning English should not be an experience filled with pressure. It can also be an opportunity to meet new people, build confidence, and discover new abilities.
Every year, more than 200 community members participate in NOAH's English language program.
For many of them, learning English means much more than attending a class.
It means having more opportunities to find a better job, communicate more easily, and build a more stable future for their families.
Imagine being able to answer confidently during a job interview, understand an important conversation, or help your children with their schoolwork.
These are small achievements that can make a big difference in everyday life.
In our adult English classes, students strengthen skills that can help them communicate in real-life situations, including:
Most importantly, each person has the opportunity to move forward in their learning journey with guidance and support.
Sonia has a special message for the Latino community:
"The key to a successful future is English. Enroll today!"
Her words are an invitation to take that first step, even if you still have questions or feel that learning might be difficult.
Learning English does not mean forgetting your roots, culture, or native language. It means gaining new tools to reach your goals and access more opportunities in the United States.
Whether you know only a few words or want to improve the English you already speak, what matters is giving yourself the opportunity to learn.
At NOAH, we offer affordable English classes throughout the year in a welcoming environment where adults can learn, practice, and feel supported.
