NOAH's Annual Fundraising Drive

Our staff is mindfully committed to service, and does outstanding work collaborating with and advocating for individuals, families and communities in Greater Boston. Unfortunately, economic climate changes and charitable foundation focus shifts are beginning to erode key programmatic funding, especially for Foreclosure Prevention and Community Building & Environment services (in particular our children and youth initiatives).  MA Attorney General
Martha Coakley Visits NOAH
On December 1, the Attorney General and her staff visited NOAH's headquarters to discuss the office's lawsuit against major banks that are pursuing illegal home foreclosure practices and irresponsible lending. Because of her leadership in initiating this action, more homeowners will be able to responsibly stay in their own homes, keep the wealth they built, sustain the fabric of their neighborhoods, keep their children in school, pay taxes, and continue to invest in local banking institutions. After a meeting during which NOAH counselors and the Attorney General and staff exchanged information, questions, and answers, the Attorney General made the following statement to the press: "Our suit alleges that the banks have charted a destructive path by cutting corners and rushing to foreclose on homeowners without following the rule of law. Our action seeks real accountability for the banks' illegal behavior and real relief for homeowners."

New Affordable Apartments Filling Up
At Stevens Corner in North Andover!
During two busy Open Houses this fall, NOAH hosted over 60 community members and prospective residents. Tours were given of the spacious apartments as well as of the new community room and garden area. Attendees were enthusiastic about the ideal location near schools and shopping. Located on the corner of 75 Park Street and Osgood Street in North Andover, this attractive structure was rehabilitated from a former abandoned nursing home facility. By the end of December, the 42-unit building was over one-third full, with 16 families happily making it their new home. Of these, half of the households were local to North Andover. NOAH Holds 24th Annual Meeting
Over 200 NOAH members, volunteers, staff and friends attended our mid-December Annual Dinner Meeting, with Mass. Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo giving the keynote address. Speaker DeLeo thanked NOAH for its "outstanding contributions" to the community and to the Commonwealth and said that our dedication to helping low-income families and other disadvantaged groups was "inspirational". Noting that NOAH has helped "hundreds upon hundreds of struggling families find a place to call home", he said that he hoped that as the City set its sights on development in East Boston that NOAH will be an important part. He also recognized NOAH for the role it plays in focusing our efforts on groups and families that are feeling the full effects of the recession. Speaker DeLeo highlighted the importance of affordable workforce housing in our state to attract and retain employees for hospitals, universities and industry.
There was a fundraising raffle that evening with a grand prize of $500 towards U.S. Airways tickets to anywhere in the U.S. Airways system; as well as signed sports gear, museum passes, gift certificates, and more. We are grateful for the many event sponsors, raffle donors and supporters: thank you!

| NOAH Has Three New Board Members!
 NOAH recently welcomed three new individuals to its Board of Directors. We were very happy to add Kim Dawson, Adrian Madaro and Camilo Hernandez to the Board. Kim is the Director of Programs at Zumix. Adrian works as a Legislative Aide for State Representative Carlo Basile. And Camilo works for City Councilor Sal LaMattina's office. We are thankful to all three of them for donating their time and energy to NOAH.

We Are Pleased to Offer the
NOAH FY11 Annual Report

During the past fiscal year, NOAH served over 1,600 client families in its affordable housing programming areas, including Property Management, First-Time Homebuyers Education and Counseling, Rental Housing Counseling and Placement, Foreclosure Prevention and Mitigation and Real Estate Development. Of these households, 80% earned less than 80% of the Area Median Income; with over 40% of clients earning less than 50% of the Area Median Income.
The Combined Operating Numbers for FY11 showed $3,352,339 in total revenues and income and $3,015,642 in total pre-depreciation expenses for the NOAH corporate entities.

Upcoming Events
Loan Modification/Foreclosure Prevention Clinics
Monday evenings, January 9, 23 and 30, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at NOAH. This workshop is the initial counseling and education session for NOAH's foreclosure prevention and mitigation counseling. Attendees should bring recent mortgage-related correspondence or paperwork. These sessions are held in Spanish and in English. Creek Action Group (CCAG) Meeting
The next CCAG meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 11, at 6:15 PM at the East Boston Social Center, 3rd Floor. Regular CCAG meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month; newcomers are welcome. For more information please call Diana Baldelomar at 617-418-8243.
First-Time Homebuyer Classes
The next Spanish course will meet on Saturday, January 21, and Saturday, January 28, from 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM. The next English course will meet on Saturday, February 11, and Saturday, February 18, from 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM. To receive a City of Boston certificate, attendees must be present at both January sessions or both February sessions. Students learn from industry guest speakers, including Home Inspectors, as well as from NOAH staff, on how best to purchase a home and about appropriate loan products. Bailaton Dance-a-thon Coming Soon
This St. Patrick's Day, go green with a twist! On Saturday, March 17, from 6 to
11 PM, join East Boston's first-ever all-Latin dance-a-thon fundraiser to support NOAH's community building and environment work. The all-Latin dance-mix will include salsa, merengue, bachata and cumbia; lessons will be given and beginners and non-dancers are welcome! It's a dance party like none you've ever seen. Raise just $100 to join in the fun. But don't stop there... we'll give you lots of fundraising tips and support to help you meet and exceed your fundraising goals. Every dollar raised helps NOAH build a stronger, more sustainable East Boston. So dust off your dancing shoes, brush up on your moves, and channel your inner cha-cha-cha. Going green just got groovy. But don't wait! The sooner you start, the more you can raise. More parks and green space, clean water, healthy foods, cooler climate, better biking, strong youth leaders... Now's your chance to dance for change! This event will be held at the Salesian Boys and Girls Club (Savio Hall) at 150 Byron Street in East Boston.
